December New Releases We're Excited For!
We're in denial about the year being over (we're not ready!) so we're slowing down and enjoying the new releases that are coming out the last month of 2024! And who knows, maybe you'll find the perfect gift for someone too!
Here are our Fiction and Nonfiction New Releases!
Sand-Catcher by Omar Khalifah
Young Palestinian journalists struggle with an older man, witness to the 1948 Nakba, in this satire and novel of suspense. Between the dark humor, anger, and heartbreak, the novel reflects a multi-faceted Palestinian identity.
Out December 3rd!
I Might Be in Trouble by Daniel Aleman
In this also dark and suspenseful book (though otherwise wildly different from the above) a struggling writer wakes up next to his dead date. He then has to weigh how far he’s willing to go to turn this gruesome turn of events into a new big book.
Out December 3rd!
Rental House by Weike Wang
I love a good family-mash dramedy (Christmas Vacation, anyone?) so I’m excited to read of a couple’s vacations spent with both sides of the extended fam. It promises to be both witty and tender, one of my favorite mash-ups of all.
Out December 3rd!
Private Rites by Julia Armfield
Here’s another family drama, probably not as tender. In this retelling of King Lear, the three daughters of a famous architect navigate grief or the lack-thereof after his death in a near-future, drowning world. I simply adored Armfield’s earlier novel!
Out December 3rd!
A Century of Tomorrows: How Imagining the Future Shapes the Present by Glenn Adamson
Speaking of the near-future, this book is a history of futurology, or the magic, pseudo-science, or plain old science that goes into predicting what is to come and how those predictions affect our present. How do we choose which one will be ours?
Out December 3rd!
Cabin: Off the Grid Adventures with a Clueless Craftsman by Patrick Hutchinson
Some people, however, want to go back to an earlier time. Hutchison left an office job for a rundown cabin in the woods, despite having zero carpentry skills. What ensued fills a Bryson-esque book of determination and splinters.
Out December 3rd!
Ingrained: The Making of a Craftsman by Callum Robinson
This author does know his way around a chisel. Robinson writes a blend of memoir, nature writing, and cultural commentary in this book compared to H Is for Hawk. What does it mean to work with your hands in these times?
Out December 3rd!
Woo Woo by Ella Baxter
And what does it mean to be a female artist in these times? The author of New Animal, one of my faves, takes this on, plus what it means to want to be seen and to see, both in art and in one’s own personal life.
Out December 3rd!
Apartment Women by Gu Byeong-Mo
A woman’s personal life is examined here as well, as women in this apartment complex deal with communal child care and other cultural expectations around parenting. The narrative follows four women whose lives intersect.
Out December 3rd!
The Beggar Student by Osamu Dazai
Another slim and mordant book from Dazai! In keeping with my theme, this novella is about a writer’s madcap adventures one night when he goes to a student’s place to be the live narrator at a film screening.
Out December 10th!
Here are our Young Adult, Middle Grade, and Children's New Releases!

Dog Man: Big Jim Begins: A Graphic Novel (Dog Man #13) by Dav Pilkey
Discover the origin of our beloved characters from the Dog Man series as they join forces to stop the Space Cuties from destroying the city. Will the past predict the future for Dog Man and his friends? Will goodness and bravery prevail? Can anything happen if you truly believe? The next book in the very loved Dog Man series.
Out December 3rd!
The Party by Natasha Preston
Bessie and her classmates' spring break party at a remote English castle turns deadly as a storm traps them with a killer, forcing them to unravel growing suspicions while the body count rises. This thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat wondering what's going to happen next!
