June New Releases We're Excited For!

June brings summer fun, so we've collected the best June new releases for your next favorite summer read!

Here are our Fiction and Nonfiction New Releases!

Fire Exit by Morgan Talty

I had the pleasure of reading this novel early and absolutely loved it! It’s a quiet book about inheritance, regret, and what it means to be a family. Talty’s writing is stellar and the author of Night of the Living Rez has again elevated the quotidian.

Sing Like Fish: How Sound Rules Life Under Water by Amorina Kingdon

Here’s a book about something I never put much thought into, past those whale song sleep aids. Kingdon tells the story of our world’s submerged sounds, how important they are to life under sea, and how humans are affecting this environment with their own noise.

Back Roads and Better Angels: A Journey Into the Heart of American Democracy by Francis S Barry

This is the story of a road trip across country on the Lincoln Highway. Barry and his wife invoke the spirit of Lincoln to try to figure out what holds this country together, and how to keep it that way. I love a good road trip tale and look forward to their discoveries and revelations.

Any Person Is the Only Self: Essays by Elisa Gabbert

I have loved Gabbert’s previous collections of essays--and poetry--and am eager to get my hands on the next work of this extraordinarily smart, funny, insightful woman. These essays range from art to reading to the life of the mind and promise to be piquant and wise.

Orwell's Ghosts: Wisdom and Warnings for the Twenty-First Century by Laura Beers

Both sides of the aisle use Orwell’s writings to bolster their own claims. Beers strips this away to examine what “Orwellian” truly means. She also examines fake news and cancel culture through the lens of his writing. As an Orwell fan, I look forward to this new take.

The Garden Against Time: In Search of a Common Paradise by Olivia Laing

Laing’s highly anticipated book examines the garden: who gets to inhabit this paradise and who is excluded? How did this come to be and how can we change it? Moving between real and imagined gardens and in time, this is for fans of Braiding Sweetgrass and honeybees.

Hombrecito by Santiago Jose Sanchez

This novel follows a young man moving between worlds: his motherland and his new life as an immigrant; his love for his mother and his true queer identity. Sanchez’s book has gotten rave reviews so far and I can’t wait to pick up their debut book.
