Here are our Fiction and Nonfiction New Releases!
The Mighty Red by Louise Erdrich
Full disclosure: I’ll read anything this woman writes. She has a knack for making the everyday, mythical and making the mythical come to life. She writes love letters to the earth and humanity at the same time. Throw in a love triangle and I’m set.
Out October 1st!
Shred Sisters by Betsy Lerner
Another love story, this of sisterly love between a studious, cautious woman and her older sibling who suffers from mental illness. It spans two decades of struggle, acceptance, and their inescapable bond.
Out October 1st!
How Women Made Music: A Revolutionary History from NPR Music edited by Alison Fensterstock
This could be a great gift book, though I’ll probably just buy it for myself… Archival interviews, essays, photographs, and illustrations all gathered by the folks that brought you Turning the Tables. Rock on.
Out October 1st!
The Position of Spoons: And Other Intimacies by Deborah Levy
One of my favorite things is to read a new essay by an author who is not just smart, but also curious. Levy is both those, and this collection promises to pique my own curiosity and interest in the world.
Out October 1st!
Slaveroad by John Edgar Wideman
This work defies categorization, seeming to stump all my major book resources. I’m going to call it a collection of historical fiction, focusing on America’s heritage of slavery and the way it can wound and separate people to this day.
Out October 8th!
Sad Grownups by Amy Stuber
We’re fortunate to be hosting this author on October 18th for an event celebrating the short story with six writers! In this collection, Stuber explores what it means to be an adult, searching for both happiness and understanding.
Out October 8th!
Q&A by Adrian Tomine
Tomine is one of my absolute favorite graphic novelists. This little book is about his life and creative process. I expect more of his honesty and dry wit that I’ve come to love in his novels. (Another gift book for myself…)
Out October 15th!
The Science of Last Things: Essays on Deep Time and the Boundaries of the Self by Ellen Wayland-Smith
More essays--these on the interconnectedness of humans and nature, what it means to be a transient creature, and what it means to be a creature at all. This is a beautiful title from Milkweed Editions that I can’t wait to get into.
Out October 15th!
Amphibian by Tyler Wetherall
I was fortunate enough to be able to read this early and adored it. Wetherall perfectly captures the intensity of girlhood friendships, especially those on the cusp of womanhood and all the strangeness and newness there to grapple with.
Out October 22nd!
This Motherless Land by Nikki May
A theme is developing: two girls grow into adulthood the closest of friends. When a tragedy occurs their friendship is torn apart. About culture, love, race, and belonging, this novel is a striking reimagining of Mansfield Park.
Out October 22nd!
Like Mother, Like Mother by Susan Rieger
There were simply too many good choices in October, so here’s a bonus book: a novel about three generations of strong-willed women who, sassy and wisecracking, paint a portrait of marriage, ambition, inheritance, and love.
Out October 29th!
Here are our Young Adult, Middle Grade, and Children's New Releases!
Heir by Sabaa Tahir
Set in the same world as An Ember in the Ashes, this new fantasy is both ruthless and romantic. Sure to bring back old fans as well as new ones!
Out October 1st!
A Split Second by Janae Marks
This book delivers a stunningly crafted and twisty mystery about the tests of friendships that examines what matters most when everything can change in a split second. Different from her other works, as a fan of her writing I can’t wait to dive into this story!
Out October 1st!

Meet Troll -- an underground bully who learns the power of words and empathy - in this gently powerful picture book just right for sharing and story times. Join Troll as he embraces a new voice for love.

An Anthology of Fungi: A Collection of Mushrooms, Toadstools and Other Fungi by Lynne Boddy and Ali Ashby, illustrated Daniel Long and Angela Rizza
A beautiful field guide featuring notes, photos, and illustrations of more than 100 species of fungi. Perfect for all the little mushroom lovers out there!

An unconventional story about navigating differences and learning to be present. Featuring a cat and it’s human, this story about imagination is great for all those imaginative thinkers.

The Bitter End by Alexa Donne
When a winter storm traps eight teens in a remote ski cabin, they find themselves stranded with a killer--who may be one of their own. This YA thriller will make your blood run cold. The trip of a lifetime might be the death of them all.

Noodle & Bao by Shaina Lu
Perfect for fans of Animal Crossing and Measuring Up, this whimsical and empowering middle grade graphic novel follows a girl who helps her friend's humble food cart stand its ground against the gentrification of their Chinatown neighborhood. All I can say is this book left me hungry for Noodles and Bao!
