September New Releases We're Excited For!
We're starting off Fall with a plethora of fantastic new releases on the horizon! Publishing houses are gearing up for the holiday season, and we're excited to share with you these incredible new books.
Here are our Fiction and Nonfiction New Releases!
Thanks for This Riot: Stories by Janelle Bassett
New short stories from a small press. You know I’m all about this--and the tales are grouped by type of riot involved! We’re lucky enough to be hosting Janelle with other debut short story writers on Friday October 18th at 7pm.
Out September 1st!
Living on Earth: Forests, Corals, Consciousness, and the Making of the World by Peter Godfrey-Smith
This satisfies my science and nature writing sweet tooth. We learn about communication, culture, and consciousness from bacteria to humans to trees, and how we on earth have gotten to where we are now. (To simplify it, somewhat.)
Out September 3rd!
Creation Lake by Rachel Kushner
I’ve read Kushner’s page-turners before and am very much looking forward to this one. A spy goes deep undercover in the French countryside to study and upend a commune of subversives. Needless to say, it doesn’t go as she planned.
Out September 3rd!
Madwoman by Chelsea Bieker
Bieker’s previous novel, Godshot, is one of my all-time favorites. In this book, a woman has constructed a perfect life based on lies hiding a childhood trauma, and when those lies begin to fail she is forced to face the past.
Out September 3rd!
Sky of Elephants by Cebo Campbell
Ever wonder what the world would be like if there just weren’t white people? This is something this old white lady had never considered. But thankfully, Campbell has in this post-racial, apocalyptic novel of a father and daughter in a tumultuous world.
Out September 10th!
Two-Step Devil by Jamie Quatro
I had the pleasure of reading this one early, and I loved it. This novel tells the tale of a young woman, who’s possibly in danger, and an old man who believes he’s the one to save her. An examination of fate and faith and salvation.
Out September 10th!
Reservoir Bitches: Stories by Dahlia de la Cerda
More small press short stories! These tales stem from the lives of women in Mexico in all walks of life. Gritty, streetwise, and full of dark humor, it’s everything I look for in short fiction.
Out September 10th!
Rejection: Fiction by Tony Tulachimutte
Perhaps you’ve noticed, but I love a good linked story collection. This is a novel in stories, all linked when some sort of rejection throws the characters’ lives into chaos. Here are the modern comic tragedies of sex, relationships, identity, and the internet.
Out September 17th!
Us Fools by Nora Lange
Nora will be joining us on Friday, October 4th for a reading! I’m about halfway through the novel now and adore it. Finally, someone who understands growing up in the Midwest! Darkly funny, heartfelt, eighties-heavy, and rather anti-capitalist.
Out September 17th!
Fentanyl Nation: Toxic Politics and America's Failed War on Drugs by Ryan Hampton
When I lived in Ohio, everyone I knew had been affected in some way by the opioid crisis. In his previous books, Hampton proved that he knows what he’s talking about, and now he has ideas to bring awareness to the crisis and how to solve it.
Out September 24th!
The Lightning Bottles by Marissa Stapley
Having once been a teen in the 90s, this love letter to grunge is extremely appealing. A woman searches for her bandmate--and lover--after he disappears mysteriously. She is, of course, blamed by the fans. A familiar story.
Out September 24th!
Playground by Richard Powers
Are you a Richard Powers person, or a Sally Rooney person? Can you be both? I adored Powers’ book The Overstory, and was only meh on Rooney’s works, so I’ll be picking up Playground before Rooney’s newest, but that’s just me.
Out September 24th!
Here are our Young Adult, Middle Grade, and Children's New Releases!
Immortal Dark by Tigest Girma
The Cruel Prince meets Ninth House in this dangerously romantic dark academia fantasy, where a lost heiress must infiltrate an arcane society and live with the handsome vampire she suspects killed her family and kidnapped her sister. I would recommend buying this one up quick because the first print run of this is so pretty!
Out September 3rd!
The Winterton Deception 1: Final Word by Janet Sumner Johnson
A twisty middle grade mystery for fans of Knives Out, The Inheritance Game, and The Westing Game. Twelve-year-old twins enter a spelling bee in a last-ditch effort to save their family from financial ruin, only to find themselves in a cut-throat competition to uncover a fortune and dark secrets about the wealthy relations they've never known. A perfect read for tweens, teens and adults.
Out September 3rd!
Knots by Colleen Frakes
In this semiautobiographical graphic novel from award-winning cartoonist Colleen Frakes, Norah must navigate not just her foiled dreams of blond hair but also the tangled mess her family has become. If you liked smile by Raina Telgemeier, you’ll love this one!

Teaching kids not to be ashamed of their natural bodily functions, this laugh-out-loud picture book features cows, monkeys, dinosaurs, and other tooters from the animal kingdom and beyond!

Not Another Banned Book by Dana Alison Levy
A ripped from the headlines middle grade novel about a group of students who must fight book banning at their school to save their club...and their world as they know it. This read will help empower all those tween activists out there in the fight for no more banning books!
Out September 10th!
Etta Extraordinaire Goes to the White House by Roda Ahmed and Charnaie Gordon, illustrated Chloe Burgett
Join Etta and her friends as they take a field trip to Washington, DC. I always love to feature picture books that are set in DC since that is where Kramers is located!
Out September 10th!
If Anything Happens to Me by Luanne Rice
Check out this, YA thriller about two girls desperate to catch a murderer who's still on the loose. I got the chance to read this early and so if you’re a fan of YA thrillers I would highly recommend this one.
Out September 17th!
Chester Barkingham Saves the Country by Julie Falatko, illustrated Eva Byrne
A White House dog teaches lawmakers how to be better humans in this hilarious picture book told in presidential memos! Again, another picture book set in DC, and this one features a cute dog!
Out September 17th!
Pick the Lock by A S King
A weird and insightful new novel about a girl intent on picking the lock of her toxic family. This one features a rat named Brutus; I’m sold.
Out September 24th!
Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Wrath of the Triple Goddess by Rick Riordan
Step back into the world of Percy Jackson and join the original trio as they go on another thrilling quest.
Out September 24th!
